Parents love you in their own way, but sometimes they can be wrong unintentionally. Hurtful words to you that leave imprints… Let it go. Parents have their pains too that are passed to you without intent. These pains don’t belong to you. They are not you; let it pass by you. When you hurt and blame your upbringing, you hold on to the past. Now you’re grown up, you’re not that vulnerable child anymore. Contemplate and let go.
We tend to treat others based on how we were treated. That’s living in the past. We should strive to be in the now. Be kind to all. You may have grown up in a house full of anger but you’ve moved out. You’re in a new house now. You’re in control. Make it a new house of peace.
We can blame parents for a lot of things that we are now. Instead of doing that, accept Dharma. Why did you create the causes to take rebirth with those parents? Growing up abused, hated or abandoned created a lot of pain in us. Why pass that pain to others? Heal by giving care, love, security. Healing never comes from passing the pain you have to others. Ultimately, you accept the karma and move on by taking care of others. No matter how much pain you have, ACCEPTING KARMA and TAKING RESPONSIBILITY is the best cure. Your anger will dissipate, your mind will calm down.
"I’m full of anger because that’s how my father treated me."
So take refuge in karma and let go.
Think of it as your karma opening. That’s an example. Whether God is unfair, or He doesn’t exist or whatever is not the point. There’s plenty of disparity in the world. Why? God?? or Karma?? Who you are, who you’re not, who you can be, who you’re afraid to be are all labels arising from karma and habituations. Hence it ALL CAN BE CHANGED.
If we CANNOT CHANGE for the better, then the BUDDHA WOULD NEVER HAVE OPENED HIS MOUTH TO EXPOUND THE DHARMA. Since Lord Buddha spent over 40 years expounding the Dharma, it means YOU CAN CHANGE, GROW, ADVANCE AND BECOME ENLIGHTENED. Why would Lord Buddha spend His life teaching you Dharma? For you to say you can’t do it? You can’t make it? You’re to remain stuck?? ILLOGICAL.
