It has always been His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s dream to have an animal sanctuary where animals are well taken care of, especially those which are ill-treated, sick, or abandoned. There is never any being too small or too insignificant and His Eminence constantly shows us what it means to care for every sentient being, as well and as much as we can.
Tsem Ladrang is creating the karmic causes for the animal sanctuary and has set up two aviaries, a tortoise shelter and multiple large aquariums within the Ladrang premises. The Ladrang has also set up many other aquariums in the different Kechara departments and Dharma houses.

His Eminence is very keen and excited for this project to take off and has explained that we should begin now on a small scale, where we learn every detail of caring for these animals. Then, when the shelter does manifest, we will all be ready and well-informed of how best to look after the animals.
Many of H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche’s students have become vegetarian to create a direct cause for KECHARA to manifest an Animal Sanctuary in the near future. KECHARA also supports various animal shelters such as My Animal Care, A Shelter Friend, Tara’s Babies and Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre, and has visited the SPCA, PAWS and Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary, amongst others, to learn how these organisations work and the best way to help the animals.

With these small efforts to care for our animal friends, which will most likely not show any appreciation no matter how much care we show them, may we develop unconditional and truly selfless love to all sentient beings, and may having these aviaries and aquariums create the causes for the Kechara Animal Sanctuary to manifest.
