I first met Rinpoche in 1994 on a surprise winter pilgrimage to India. Until Rinpoche came into my life, I was an avid tennis player by day and by night, a regular attendee at the crème de la crème of events on KL’s social calendar. Meeting Rinpoche changed all of that, and for the better. He has helped me to find a deeper and more meaningful life, one that stretches beyond the courts of both tennis and social scenes!
Over the last 14 years, I have been fortunate enough to receive and practice the Dharma under the care of a teacher carrying the unbroken lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa. I have been able to devote myself to Rinpoche’s work, something I could never have contemplated when I first met Rinpoche back in those days. As Rinpoche’s Liaison of Personal Affairs and Kechara Paradise Outlets, I have been given the responsibility of looking after many of Rinpoche’s private work & affairs, and constantly overseeing the merchandising for our five Dharma outlets.
Coming into Dharma has not forced me to abandon my old lifestyle – I am still director of an international petroleum company, and continue to mother and provide for my three grown-up children at university. However, being one of Rinpoche’s Liaisons means I have learnt to incorporate a greater sense of purpose in whatever I do. Now, instead of jetting around the world for the latest designer goods, I go on numerous trips abroad each year to scout for the best in statues, ritual implements and thangkas for our beautiful Dharma outlets.
I am also the President of Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK), a department that is very close to Rinpoche’s heart. On our weekly food distribution rounds, I am reminded of why, as a Liaison, I give the best I can to my Lama and the Dharma: I do so because I have committed the rest of my life to benefitting others.
